Mike Garafolo of NFL Media reports that the Redskins are releasing CBย Orlando Scandrick on Tuesday.
This comes as a bit of a surprise, considering that there have been questions about the Redskins depth at cornerback. However, they must feel like they’re better moving forward with their other options and giving some younger players more reps.
Scandrick, 31, is a former fifth-round pick of the Cowboys back in 2008. He was in the fourth year of his five-year, $20 million contractย and set to make base salaries of $3 million and $4 million over the final two years of the agreement when the Cowboys designated him as a post-June 1 release.
The Redskins signed Scandrick to a two-year contract that included $1 million guaranteed this offseason.
According toย OverTheCap.com,ย releasing Scandrick willย free up $2,093,750 of available cap space while creating $1 million in dead money.
In 2017, Scandrick recorded 38 tackles, no interceptions and three pass defenses for the Cowboys over the course of 11 games before he was placed on injured reserve. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 113 overall cornerback out of 121 qualifiers.
