Redskins Releasing LB Mason Foster

According to Erin Hawksworth, the Redskins are releasing LB Mason Foster ahead of training camp.

The Redskins were reportedly shopping Foster back in March as they looked at other options at linebacker in free agency.

However, Washington was already thin at the position following LB Reuben Foster‘s season-ending knee injury during OTA’s, so this comes as a slight surprise.

Free-agent signing Jon Bostic now presumably moves into the top slot on the Redskins inside linebacker depth chart.

Foster, 30, is a former third-round pick of the Buccaneers back in 2011. He played out his rookie contract in Tampa Bay before signing on with the Redskins in 2015 with a two-year, $2.5 million contract.

According to OverTheCap.com, releasing Foster frees up $4 million of available cap space while creating $250,000 thousand in dead money.

In 2018, Foster appeared in 16 games for the Redskins, totalling 131 tackles, one sack, two interceptions, two fumble recoveries and four passes defensed.
