The Washington Redskins announced Thursday that they’ve signed LB Garrett Sickels to a contract and waived RB Elijah Wellman.
Sickels, 24, wound up signing a three-year, $1.66 million contract with the Colts as an undrafted free agent out of Penn State back in 2017. He was set to make base salaries of $465,000 and $555,000 over the first two years of the contract when the Colts cut him loose coming out of the preseason and later signed him to their practice squad.
Sickels had a brief stint with the Browns before signing on with the Rams in October. He returned to Los Angeles on an exclusive rights contract last year, but was waived with an injury designation and later reverted to the Rams’ injured reserve list.
Los Angeles declined to tender qualifying offer, making him an unrestricted free agent.
During his college career at Penn State, Sickels recorded 94 tackles, 21.5 tackles for a loss, 11.5 sacks, a forced fumble, two recoveries and a pass defense over the course of 33 games.
