Redskins Telling Teams They Won’t Trade Holdout LT Trent Williams

Adam Schefter of ESPN is reporting that the Redskins have told multiple teams this summer that they are not trading LT Trent Williams, despite the fact that he’s holding out of training camp.

According to Schefter, Washington hasnโ€™t flinched, even though teams have repeatedly called them about Williams.

Last week, a source who’s spoken to Williams told JP Finlay of NBC Sports that: He’s not coming back. Period.”

Finlay’s sources called a report saying the Redskins planned to fine Williams to force him back “funny” as the veteran has made nearly $100 million over his career and the fines would only amount to around $500,000. Williams also isn’t concerned about losing his 2019 salary.

Finlay mentions that Williams’ issues with the team don’t all come down to money. He wants to rework his contract despite still having two years left. However, Williams is also unhappy with the team’s front office and medical staff.

That said, money might be the only way for Washington to mend fences with Williams, per Finlay.

Williams requested either a trade or release earlier this offseason and has reportedly vowed not to play for Washington in 2019.

The Browns and Texans could both use a left tackle like Williams, but it remains to be seen whether Washington will make him available.

Williams, 30, is a former first-round pick of the Redskins back in 2010. He currently in the fourth year of his five-year, $66 million contract that includes $43.25 million guaranteed and stands to make base salaries of $11 million and $12.5 million over the next two years of the agreement.

In 2018, Williams started 13 games for the Redskins.  Pro Football Focus rated Williams as the No. 21 tackle out of 80 qualifying players.

We’ll have more on the situation with the Redskins and Williams as the news is available.
