Redskins Want Tim Hightower Back As Starting Running Back

Dan Graziano of ESPN mentions that the Redskins would still like to re-sign veteran RB Tim Hightower to be “their starting running back” next season.

Even with up and coming players like Roy Helu and Evan Royster on the roster, Graziano mentions that head coach Mike Shanahan “loves Higtower, whom he views as an every-down runner, a good receiving back and a help in pass protection as well.” Graziano adds that Shanahan is not sold on the young running backs because he supposedly doesn’t view them as “the total package yet.

Hightower, 25, is coming off of a torn ACL that cost him the remainder of the 2011 season.  ACL injuries can be difficult to recover from and usually takes two years to feel completely comfortable with the previously injured knee.  Hightower met with the Patriots yesterday, so the market for his services could pick up following the draft.
