Report: 49ers, Mike Iupati in Contract Talks

Per Albert Breer of NFL Network, the San Francisco 49ers are in contract talks with offensive guard Mike Iupati.

It doesn’t appear that a deal is just waiting to be signed, nor that there is even a timetable for a new contract, writes Matt Maiocco of CSNBayArea.com.

A first-round selection in 2010, the 25-year-old Idaho product is considered to be one of the best young guards in all of football. Pro Football Focus graded him as a very above average player last season, especially in the run blocking department.

Iupati has also not missed a game thus far in his NFL career, having started all 48 regular season contests since joining the Niners.

Iupati would likely look to top new Titans G Andy Levitre who received a six-year deal worth $46.8 million, and could possibly approach Carl Nicks five-year contract worth $47.5 million.

Iupati is coming off a 2012 season that saw his first Pro Bowl selection and First Team All-Pro nod as well. His stock is only rising, so San Fran would be wise to secure him while they have the chance.
