Report: Bengals Will Promote Paul Guenther To Defensive Coordinator

Jason La Canfora reports that the Bengals have promoted LBs coach Paul Guenther to defensive coordinator now that Mike Zimmer has accepted the Vikings head coaching job.

• La Canfora adds the Redskins and Vikings both had “significant interest” interest in hiring Guenther as their defensive coordinator.

Reports from earlier in the week indicated that the Bengals prioritized retaining Guenther in the event that Zimmer actually got the Vikings job.

Cincinnati will at least maintain some level of continuity by keeping Guenther, but it’s not going to be easy for this team to replace someone like Zimmer.
