Broncos Extend John Elway’s Contract, Give Him GM Title

Update:

————

Mike Klis of the Denver Post reports that the Broncos have signed executive vice president of football operations John Elway to a three-year extension and added “general manager” to his current title.

  • Mike Garafolo mentions that Elway’s deal is really a four-year contract that will keep him in Denver through the 2017 season.

The Broncos brought Elway in after they elected to fire Josh McDaniels. He was entering the final year of his contract, and given that he has not only had a ton of success since taking over the job, but is also the most marketable figure in the history of the franchise, this really seems like an obvious move from owner Pat Bowlen standpoint.

Elway was instrumental in the Broncos signing Peyton Manning a few years ago, just as he has helped them become of one of the best teams in the entire NFL.
