Report: Buccaneers Not Interested in Dwight Freeney or John Abraham

Mark Cook of the Pewter Report reports that the Buccaneers have no interest in signing free agents DE like Dwight Freeney or John Abraham.

After losing Michael Bennett during free agency, it seemed as though Tampa Bay would at least consider the idea of bringing in some additional depth at the defensive end position, but according Cook, the Bucs believe they’ll be better off with Da’Quan Bowers and Adrian Clayborn next season.

At this point in the offseason, it seems very likely that Freeney and Abraham could be had for very little money. Osi Umenyoria will make $4.25 million annually with the Falcons and the Broncos got Shaun Phillips for just $1 million a few weeks ago. Freeney and Abraham could probably be had for something less than what Umenyoria received.

NFL teams are more focused than ever on developing young talent versus signing players who are likely on the downswing of their careers. We’ll have to see where these guys end up in the next few months. We have Freeney and Abraham listed in our Best Available Free Agents list.
