Report: Eric Wright Not Healthy Enough To Sign With A Team

Update:

A source has informed Kevin Lynch that free agent CB Eric Wright is not healthy enough to sign with any team.

While we don’t know what kind of injury Wright is currently dealing with, the 49ers plan to meet with doctors next week to clarify his current status. Wright was unable to pass his physical with the 49ers, which is why the trade was ultimately voided.

Wright reportedly met with 49ers GM Trent Baalke on Thursday, so there is at least a chance he could be signed in the near future, as long as he is able to pass his medical evaluation.

Kevin Lynch reports that free agent CB Eric Wright spent some time with 49ers GM Trent Baalke on Thursday.

  • Lynch adds that Wright would need to pass physical to sign with the team.

Wright was traded to the 49ers temporarily before the deal was ultimately voided. The Buccaneers released Wright a day later.

Despite the fact that the trade fell through, Baalke wouldn’t close the door on the idea of possibily adding Wright at a different point in time.

“With respect to Eric, there’s always a possibility that he becomes a Niner at some point, it’s just not now,” Baalke said a few weeks ago, via CSN Bay Area.

San Francisco lost CB Chris Culliver for the season after he suffered a torn ACL during Thursday’s practice, so it would make sense for them to bring in some additional help during training camp. We’ll have more as the news is available.
