Report: Giants Not Averse To Trading WR Odell Beckham

On Wednesday, Giants GM Dave Gettleman told reporters that they “didn’t sign Odell to trade him.”

However, leagues sources indicated to Jason La Canfora that the Giants are not averse to trading WR Odell Beckham Jr, despite the comments from Gettleman.

According to La Canfora, Giants HC Pat Shurmurhas been at wits end on how to manage him” and “a trade is certainly not out of the question.”

La Canfora’s sources have pointed to the 49ers and Raiders as being the “most likely strong suitors” if trade talks escalate this offseason.

Beckham, 26, was taken with the No. 12 overall pick by the Giants back in 2014. He played out the final year of his four-year, $10,406,198 contract before the Giants picked up his fifth-year option in 2017.

Beckham was set to make a base salary of $8,459,000 for the 2018 season when he agreed to a new five-year extension worth up to $95 million and includes $65 million in total guarantees. He stands to make base salaries of $16.75 million and $14 million over the next two years.

In 2018, Beckham appeared in 12 games for the Giants and recorded 77 receptions for 1,052 yards receiving (13.7 YPC) and six touchdowns.

We’ll have more regarding Beckham as the news is available.

  1. There were exactly 20 NFL receivers with a 1,000 yards or better receiving in the 2018 season. And none of them were on the SB winning Patriots team. Of the 20 receivers, only two were on the runner-up Rams being Cooks and Woods.

Now! Look at where the GMEN are at for 2019. Is Odell Beckham Jr., all his drama and his $95M contract really making a difference for the GMEN? Considering the GMEN have three receiving threats capable of 1,000 yards or more receiving a year in Sterling Shepard, Evan Engram and Saquon Barkley.

So! In all reality, is a $95M contract and all the drama that comes with OBJ really helping the GMEN over the next 5 years. Personally, I don’t think so at all.

The 2019 Draft has a lot of wide receiver talent this year. The GMEN should trade Beckham, hopefully nabbing a 1st and 3rd this year. I still predict OBJ to the Brownies for their 2019 1st, 3rd and the rights to Antonio Callaway. This trade makes sense for both franchises. Beckham goes to a franchise with his ‘ole buddy Jarvis Landry as well as being reunited with his ‘ole position coach. Plus! The Brownies become a legit threat in the AFC in 2019. The GMEN get 2019 much needed draft capital coupled with a Stephon Diggs type receiver in Antonio Callaway. The GMEN would then have 2 first rounders and a much needed third rounder. All the picks will help the GMEN rebuild move along.
