Report: Jadeveon Clowney Interested In Signing With Giants

Ralph Vacchiano of SNY is reporting that the Giants are one of the teams free agent DE/OLB Jadeveon Clowney is interested in signing this offseason.

Clowney’s asking price could end up being “extraordinarily high,” according to Vacchiano. In fact, a separate source tells Vacchiano that could be looking for as much as worth $22-23 million per year, which will likely be out of the Giants’ range.

The Giants should have around $75 million or so to work with this offseason and could use an impact pass rusher like Clowney. However, Vacchiano says it remains to be seen whether they would spend that much on any player.

Vacchiano adds that the Giants do have interest in re-signing Markus Golden and Patriots free agent DE Kyle Van Noy could be another potential target for New York.

Clowney, 27, is a former No. 1 overall pick of the Texans back in 2014. He was in the final year of his four-year, $22.272 million contract when the Texans picked up his fifth-year option which paid him $12.306 million for the 2018 season.

Houston franchised Clowney last year before trading him to the Seahawks at the start of the regular season. He’s once again in line to be an unrestricted free agent this offseason.

In 2019, Clowney appeared in 13 games for the Seahawks and recorded 31 tackles, three sacks, an interception, two defensive touchdowns, four forced fumbles, two recoveries and three pass defenses. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 20 edge rusher out of 108 qualifying players.

We have him included in our Top 100 – 2020 Free Agents list.

  1. DO NOT SIGN CLOWNEY! This guy Clowney is as inconsistent a player you have ever seen. Clowney has all the physical traits to be one of the best edge rushers in the NFL. But! Clowney has a 10 cent brain and is one good sneeze away from extended time on IR.
Douche Gettleman drafted Lorenzo Carter and Oshane Ximines to be the QB Hunters. Which needless to say has become a disaster of moves as well.
GMEN FANS should HOPE the 2020 NFL DRAFT unfolds as follows:
    1. The Bengals take the obvious QB Joe Burrow.
    2. The Redskins trade out of the 2nd spot.
    3. The Lions at 3, draft LB Simmons or CB Okudah.
    4. THE GMEN HAVE OLB/DE CHASE YOUNG FALL TO THEM.
But! Douche Gettleman is GOING TO SCREW THIS DRAFT PICK UP just like he did the last 2 years.
