Report: Packers Likely To Place TE Jermichael Finley On IR

Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports reports that Packers TE Jermichael Finley is scheduled to be released from the hospital Thursday morning.

According to La Canfora, Finley is expected to be placed on season-ending injured reserve, but adds that a decision by Green Bay has yet to be made.

All indications are that Finley will be able to continue his career in the NFL, which is a very positive sign considering the serious nature of neck and spine injuries.

Finley, 26, was in the final year of his contract and will be an unrestricted free agent after the season. Green Bay typically tries to lock up their young talent, but after signing QB Aaron Rodgers and OLB Clay Matthews to long-term deals, it could be tough for them to add another sizable contract to their cap situation. After all, DT B.J. Raji, WR James Jones and CB Sam Shields will also be free agents.

We’ll have more on Finley as the news is available.
