Report: Panthers S Charles Godfrey Accepts Pay Cut

ESPN’s Field Yatesย reports thatย Panthers S Charles Godfrey has agreed to reduce his salary to be back with the team.

  • According to Yates, Godfrey’s 2014 base salary has been reduced fromย $5ย millionย to $750,000, but he has an opportunity to earn $1.7ย million in per gameย roster bonuses.
  • Yates adds that the Panthers will free upย over $4 million in cap space with this move.

It’s really not all that shocking that Carolina approachedย Godfrey regarding a pay cut as this idea came up months ago.

Godfrey, 28, suffered a season-ending Achilles injury during the team’s second game of the season, so there is at least some concern about his productivity moving forward.

Heย wound up appearing in just two games last season and contributed ten tackles and a sack.

It’s worth noting that Pro Football Focus had Godfrey rated as the No. 82 safety out of 88ย qualifying players back in 2012.
