Report: Panthers Still Working On A Long-Term Extension For DE Greg Hardy

Joe Person of theย Charlotte Observerย reports that the Carolina Panthers remain in contract talks with free agent DEย Greg Hardy regarding a long-term contract extension.

  • Person mentions that the Panthers do have ย a “trump card” in contract talks in the form of aย franchise tag.

Bill Voth, citing a league source, reported on Tueday that the Carolina Panthers areย preparing to franchise DEย Greg Hardyย in the coming weeks.

Person adds that Carolina recently met with Hardy’s agent,ย Drew Rosenhaus, to discuss a new contract, but negotiations are still ongoing at this point.

Hardy, 25, is widely expected to be targeting massive contract that could come close toย Charles Johnson‘sย six-year, $78 million deal.

Should the Panthers elect to franchise Hardy, it would run them close toย $12.6 million guaranteed next season.

Hardy will be a popular topic in the coming days given that the franchise tag deadline is fast approaching.

We have Hardyย listed as the No. 2 player in ourย Top 50 Free Agents list.
