Report: Playoff Expansion & Reseeding Likely To Come In 2015

ESPN’s Chris Mortensen has spoke to several league sources who believe playoff reseeding will become a reality next year.

NFL commissioner Roger Goodell mentioned last week that the league will vote in March to expand the playoff field from 12 to 14 teams for the 2015 season.

According to Mortensen, the NFL will discuss the idea of having two divisional champions in each conference that will all get home games while the remaining eight teams will be seeded by their win-loss record.

In previous years, the idea of adjusting the playoff seeding hasn’t gone anywhere, but Mortensen mentions that proponents believe playoff expansion will could facilitate even more changes.

This news comes as the NFC South winner is likely to finish the year with an 8-8 record at best and secure an home playoff game against a team with a much better record.
