According to the Washington Post, the Washington Redskins are expected to fire HC Mike Shanahan as earlier as tonight or possibly Monday morning.

The source cited in the report mentioned that Shanahan was “definitely” going to be fired, while a separate source added that Shanahan was certain to be replaced.

Washington’s is currently sitting with a disappointing record of 3-12 on the season, which means the Rams are almost certain to walk away with a top-three draft pick in 2014. Shanahan’s overall record in four seasons as the Redskins head coach is 24-39 (.369).

Shanahan is owed $7 million for the 2014 season, which is apparently not an inhibiting factor for Redskins’ owner Dan Synder.

It will be interesting to see what names are connected to Redskins head coaching job in the coming days. One speculative option previously mentioned is Baylor HC Art Briles.
