Report: Texans Cut Cierre Wood, Sam Montgomery & Willie Jefferson For Violating Team Rules

Update:

Texans rookies LB Willie Jefferson, DE/OLB Sam Montgomery and RB Cierre Wood placed through waivers unclaimed on Tuesday and are now free agents.

โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€“

John McClain of the Houston Chronicle reports that the Texans have released RB Cierre Wood, DE Sam Montgomery and OLB Willie Jefferson for violating team rules at a Kansas City hotel.

Itโ€™s worth noting that all three players are rookies who have had off-the-field issues in the past.

Montgomery is probably the most the most notable player given that he was once considered to be a first-round talent before the Texans selected him No. 95 overall. His transition to the NFL hasnโ€™t been easy given that the team has already decided to move him to outside linebacker.

Meanwhile, Wood and Jefferson received limited playing time for the Texans this season, but thatโ€™s not too surprising given that theyโ€™re rookies.

McClain notes that Wood could have seen the field against the Chiefs due to Arian Foster and Ben Tate sustaining injuries. Itโ€™s a bad look for a young player to be released at a time when the team is in need of help at your position.

Jefferson has shown some potential as a 3-4 pass rusher, but this is also a going to impact his situation moving forward, at least to some degree.

The Texans should be in the market for a third string running back this week.
