Rex Grossman Reportedly Turned Down Jets, Could Have Interest From Falcons

Dianna Marie Russini of ESPN reports that free agent QB Rex Grossman turned down the Jets, which led to the team signing veteran QB Matt Flynn Tuesday night.

  • According to Russini, the Falcons have some level of interest in possibly signing Grossman.

Russini previously mentioned that the Falcons coaching staff would like to upgrade their backup quarterbacks position, as there’s some question as to whether or not T.J. Yates is really the team’s preferred option as Matt Ryan‘s backup.

It’s worth mentioning that Atlanta also has Sean Renfree on their roster right now.

Grossman, 34, previously found interest from the Browns several months ago, but ultimately passed on the opportunity.

Last we heard, he was dealing with an injury that he sustained during training and would need another few weeks to be ready. However, it sounds like the Jets were still willing to sign him to a contract.

Many have made the connection between Grossman and offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan in the past, so I guess you can’t completely rule out this possibility.

Grossman last appeared in an NFL game during the 2011 season when he was playing for the Redskins.
