Barry Jackson reports thatย even though Rex Ryan has been putting together a staff with theย hope of landing the Dolphins’ head-coaching job, he is not a candidate for the position.
According to Barry Jackson, Rex Ryan called several assistant coaches to put together a staff in the hope that either the University of Miami or the Dolphins would call him regarding their head-coaching vacancies.
Two former Miami Hurricanes wanted the school to hire Ryan, but they ultimately convinced Manny Diaz to not take the Temple job and return to Miami.
Jackson adds that Ryan is now hoping to get the Dolphins’ head-coaching job if they fire Adam Gase.
Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald reports that the University of Miami is hiring Manny Diaz as their head coach, which obviously eliminates the possibility of Rex Ryan ending up at the school.
Armando Salguero of the Miami Herald reports that former Bills and Jets HC Rex Ryan has been calling assistant coaches from his past to gauge their interest in joining him if he ends up being hired by the Miami Dolphins.
According to Salguero, Ryan has been telling โhis guysโ that he could interview for the Dolphins if they part ways with HC Adam Gase.
Salguero adds that Ryan has told some assistants that he has a “solid chance” of landing one of the two coaching jobs in Miami, but his preference would be to remain in the NFL and coach the Dolphins.
According to Barry Jackson, former Jets and Bills HCย Rex Ryanย is believed to have interest in the head coach job at the University of Miami following the news that Mark Richt is retiring.
Jackson reports that a couple prominent former Miami players are pushing behind scenes for Ryan to be hired.
Ryan, 56, began his coaching career back in 1987 at Eastern Kentucky. He worked for a number of schools before being hired by the Ravens as their DL coach in 1999.
Ryan eventually worked his way up to assistant HC/defensive coordinator before the Jets hired him as their head coach in 2009. He was fired after six years in New York and immediately hired by the Bills as their head coach.
Buffalo would fire Ryan after two seasons and he’s been working as an analyst for ESPN the past few years.
For his career, Ryan’s teams produced a record of 61-66 (48 percent), which includes two postseason appearances and two trips to the AFC Championship game.
