Jason Cole reportsย that after talking with a source close to New York Jets Head Coach Rex Ryan, his feeling is that Ryan will pursue other coaching opportunities, rather than a job on television
- Cole notes that Ryan is “obsessed” with winning a Super Bowl as a Head Coach.
- Conversely, Cole states that he does not think Ryan would rule out a move to the media if it made sense financially.
Cole’s report is, of course, predicated on the highly likely firing of Ryan at season’s end.
It is important to note that Cole is merely stating his hunch based on conversations with someone close to Ryan, but it is telling that it sounds as though Ryan expects to get another head coaching gig in the near future.
There should be no shortage of suitors for Ryan, at least for an assistant’s position. ย He was highly successful as the defensive coordinator for the Ravens, and he would likely be the top choice for several teams looking for a leader on that side of the ball.
On a team with a potent offense, a greater margin for error would allow Ryan to employ the type of aggressive defense he prefers.
Ryan is 44-48 in six seasons as the Head Coach of the Jets.
