Robbie Gould Interested In Returning To Chicago?

San Francisco 49ers K Robbie Gould spent 11 seasons kicking for the Chicago Bears, and told the Associated Press Friday that he’d like to spend more.

“Once a Bear always a Bear,” Gould said. “I truly mean that. This is where I spent 11 years of my life playing for an awesome organization. I’ve developed a lot of great relationships throughout the city but also the organization, just like I’ve done in New York, just like I’ve done in San Francisco. Will it happen? I don’t know.”

The Bears released K Cody Parkey this week after a rough season that included a critical missed field goal in the playoffs.  Chicago will be looking for stability at kicker that it hasn’t had since Gould left.

But the 49ers are reportedly considering using the franchise tag on Gould, which would end any hopes of a reunion, at least in 2019.

The franchise tag would cost the 49ers around $5 million fully guaranteed for the 2019 season.

Gould, 36, originally signed on with the Patriots back in 2005 as an undrafted free agent, but he lasted just a few months in New England before joining the Ravens briefly and later joining the Bears.

Gould was in the fourth year of his five-year, $17.925 million contract when he was released by the Bears at the start of the 2016 season. He later signed a one-year deal with the Giants.

The 49ers brought Gould in on a two-year, $4 million contract in 2017. He’s in line to be an unrestricted free agent this offseason.

In 2018, Gould appeared in all 16 games for the 49ers and converted 33 of 34 field goal attempts (97.1 percent) to go along with 27 of 29 extra point tries (93.1 percent).
