According to Mary Kay Cabot, NFL commissioner Roger Goodell said he plans to meet with DE Myles Garrett within the next 60 days to discuss Garrett’s reinstatement to the league.
While Goodell did not want to say how he thought the meeting would go, a league source tells Cabot the expectation is that Garrett’s indefinite suspension for his role in a brawl between the Browns and Steelers will be lifted.
Garrett was suspended for the final six games of the 2019 season after ripping off Steelers QB Mason Rudolph‘s helmet and clubbing him in the head with it.
During the meeting, Goodell plans to gauge Garrett’s reaction to his suspension. If he shows good behavior and answers the league’s questions accurately, there’s a good chance he’ll be reinstated in time to participate in OTAs.
Garrett, 24, is a former first-round pick of the Browns back in 2017. He just finished the third year of his four-year, $30.4 million fully guaranteed contract.
Garrett stands to make a base salary of $4.61 million over the final year of the agreement. The Browns have a fifth-year option to pick up for the 2021 season.
In 2019, Garrett appeared in 10 games and recorded 29 tackles, 10 sacks, and two forced fumbles.
