Adam Schefter reports that the Saints are hosting veteran RB Jamaal Charles for a visit on Wednesday.
This is the first reported interest in Charles since the free agent market officially opened back in March.
The Saints are also trying out veteran RB Tim Hightower on Tuesday (NFLTR), so theyย appear to be taking a look at some available running backs as potential additions.
It’s worth mentioning thatย New Orleans will be without Mark Ingram for the first four games of the season, which likely explains their interest in these running backs.
Charles,ย 31, is a former third-round pick of the Chiefs back in 2008. After nine years in Kansas City, the Chiefs released him last year and he later signed a one-year, $1 million contract with the Broncos.
Charles has been testing the open market as an unrestricted free agent this offseason.
In 2017, Charles has appeared in 14 games for the Broncos and rushed for 296 yards on 69 carries (4.3 YPC) to go along with 23 receptions for 129 yards receiving and one touchdown.
