Saints Place RB C.J. Spiller On IR, Likely Done In New Orleans

The New Orleans Saints placed RB C.J. Spiller on season-ending injured reserve Wednesday, according to Field Yates.

Spiller, 28, signed a four-year, $16 million contract that includes $9 million guaranteed with the Saints back in March. He stands to make a base salary of of $750,000 this season and another $1.7 million next year.

According to OverTheCap.com, releasing Spiller next year would free up $750,000 in available cap space and create $3,750,000 in dead money.

This season, Spiller has appeared in 13  games and ran for 112 on yards on 36 carries (3.1 YPC) to go along with 34  receptions for 239 yards receiving and two total touchdowns for the Saints. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 41 running back out of 67 qualifying players.
