Saints Release QB J.T. Barrett From PS, Cut LB Ray-Ray Armstrong

The New Orleans Saints officially released LB Ray-Ray Armstrong and cut QB J.T. Barrett from their practice squad on Tuesday.

Here’s the Saints updated practice squad:

  1. WR Taquan Mizzell
  2. OL John Leglue
  3. WR Emmanuel Butler
  4. OL Derrick Kelly II
  5. S T.J. Green
  6. DE Mitchell Loewen
  7. WR Krishawn Hogan
  8. DT Taylor Stallworth

Barrett, 24, wound up going undrafted out of Ohio State back in May before signing a three-year, $1.71 million contract with the Saints. New Orleans elected to waive Barrett as they cut their roster down to 53 players and he was on and off of their practice squad throughout the year.

Barrett returned to New Orleans on a futures deal this past January, but was cut loose in August. He later had a brief stint with the Seahawks before returning to the Saints’ practice squad last month.

During his four years at OSU, Barrett threw for 9,434 yards while completing 63.5 percent of his passes to go along with 104 touchdowns and 30 interceptions. He also rushed for 3,263 yards and 43 touchdowns.

Armstrong, 28, originally signed on with the Rams as an undrafted free agent out of Miami back in 2013. He lasted just over a year with the Rams before he was waived and later claimed by the Raiders in 2014.

Armstrong would go on to have stints with the 49ers and Giants before signing on with the Browns last year. Cleveland brought him back on a one-year deal this offseason, only to release him as they trimmed down to the 53-man limit.

The Saints signed him to a contract last month.

In 2018, Armstrong appeared in six games for the Giants and nine games for the Browns, recording 23 total tackles and no sacks or interceptions.
