Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that the Saints and QB Drew Brees have agreed to a two-year contract worth roughly $50 million.
Reports from last night mentioned that Brees and the Saints were close to finalizing a deal, so this shouldn’t come as a big surprise.
Brees made it clear that he would only play for the Saints once he decided to return for the 2020 season.
Yesterday, the Saints used a first-round restricted tender on QB Taysom Hill and a report said that they hadn’t closed the door on a potential deal for Teddy Bridgewater.
Either way, it’s clear Brees will be the team’s starting quarterback this season.
It’s worth mentioning that the Saints had to get a deal done with Brees before Wednesday or they would take a cap hit from his last contract.
Brees, 41, is a former second-round pick of the Chargers back in 2001. After five years with the Chargers, Brees signed on with the Saints as a free agent in 2006.
Brees has spent the past 12 seasons in New Orleans and played out the final year of his two-year, $50 million contract.
In 2019, Brees appeared in 11 games for the Saints and completed 74.3 percent of his passes for 2,979 yards, 27 touchdowns and four interceptions.
We had him featured in our Top 100 – 2020 Free Agents list.
