The New Orleans Saints have signed veteran TE Alex Smith to a contract on Friday, according to the NFL Transactions release.
The Saints have been taking a look at available tight ends in recent weeks, so it isn’t a big surprise to see them add some more depth.
Smith, 29, is a former third-round pick of the Buccaneers back in 2005. He wound up playing out his rookie contract with the team before signing on with the Eagles.
Since then Smith has played for the Browns and most recently the Bengals.
In 2014, Smith appeared in just two games for the Bengals, but didn’t record a single statistic.
