The Seattle Seahawks officially waived DT Damon Harrison on Monday after he requested his release from the team due to a lack of playing time.
Teams had previously tried to lure Harrison away from the Seahawks when he was on the practice squad, but he had maintained he was committed to staying in Seattle.
Harrison has said that he plans to mull over his options from here before deciding on anything.
Harrison, 31, originally signed on with the Jets as an undrafted free agent out of William Penn back in 2012. He spent four years with the Jets before departing in free agency for a five-year, $46.25 million contract with the Giants.
The Giants later traded Harrison to the Lions. He was entering the fourth year of his five-year, $46.25 million deal when he agreed to a one-year, $11 million extension last year.
Detroit released him in February and it took until last month for him to sign on to the Seahawks’ practice squad.
In 2020, Harrison has appeared in six games for the Seahawks and recorded nine total tackles and one forced fumble.
