According to Josina Anderson, the Seahawks plan to release S Tedric Thompson in a move to save salary cap space.
Seattle had earlier given Thompson permission to seek a trade but apparently found no takers. Thompson lost his starting job last season after the Seahawks traded for S Quandre Diggs.
Thompson also tore his labrum last season, which could have adversely affected his trade market, but Anderson says the safety is now healthy.
According to Over The Cap, releasing Thompson frees up $2.133 million for Seattle while creating $168,003 in dead money.
Thompson, 25, is a former fourth-round pick of the Seahawks back in 2017. He’s currently in the final year of his four-year, $3.07 million contract and stands to make a base salary of $735,000 for the 2020 season.
In 2019, Thompson appeared in six games for the Seahawks and recorded 19 tackles, two interceptions and two pass defenses. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 84 safety receiver out of 86 qualifying players.
