Jeremy Fowler of ESPN reports that the Seahawks are making attempts to re-sign free agent DE Jadeveon Clowney and DT Jarran Reed.
Fowler says that both players may very well still end up testing the open market, but Seattle is at least trying to get deals done with both of them.
Clowney told ESPN’s Josina Anderson a few weeks ago that he would “definitely” like to return to the Seahawks in 2020, but he’s open to the possibility of playing elsewhere if need be.
“[A]fter spending the last year in Seattle and seeing how they do things, I would definitely like to return. However, I’m also open to new opportunities if it comes down to that,” Clowney said.
According to Anderson, the Giants and Colts are among teams that could potentially have some interest in Clowney.
Clowney, 27, is a former No. 1 overall pick of the Texans back in 2014. He was in the final year of his four-year, $22.272 million contract when the Texans picked up his fifth-year option which paid him $12.306 million for the 2018 season.
Houston franchised Clowney last year before trading him to the Seahawks at the start of the regular season.
In 2019, Clowney appeared in 13 games for the Seahawks and recorded 31 tackles, three sacks, an interception, two defensive touchdowns, four forced fumbles, two recoveries and three pass defenses. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 2o edge rusher out of 108 qualifying players.

Reed, 27, was selected in the second round out of Alabama in 2016. He played out the final year of his four-year contract worth $4,889,636 that included a signing bonus of $1,756,100.
Reed was suspended for the first six weeks of the 2019 season after violating the NFL’s personal conduct policy from an incident in 2017. He’s in line to be an unrestricted free agent for the first time in his NFL career.
In 2019, Reed appeared in 10 games for the Seahawks and recorded 27 tackles, two sacks, a forced fumble and a pass defense.
