Seahawks Will Grant DT Damon Harrison’s Request To Be Released

According to Tom Pelissero, Seahawks DT Damon Harrison has requested Seattle release him after learning he would be a healthy scratch today against the Rams.

The Seahawks plan to grant Harrison’s request next week, though Pelissero notes they hope he has a change of heart.

Harrison posted the following on Twitter Sunday:

Teams had previously tried to lure Harrison away from the Seahawks when he was on the practice squad, but he had maintained he was committed to staying in Seattle.

The lack of playing time appears to be a clear factor in his decision.

Harrison, 31, originally signed on with the Jets as an undrafted free agent out of William Penn back in 2012. He spent four years with the Jets before departing in free agency for a five-year, $46.25 million contract with the Giants.

The Giants later traded Harrison to the Lions. He was entering the fourth year of his five-year, $46.25 million deal when he agreed to a one-year, $11 million extension last year.

Detroit released him in February and it took until last month for him to sign on to the Seahawks’ practice squad.

In 2020, Harrison has appeared in six games for the Seahawks and recorded nine total tackles and one forced fumble.
