Broncos DL Shelby Harris tells Ian Rapoport that while he would like to return to Denver, he has to make the right decision for his family, given that this could be his only shot to cash in as a free agent.
“The one thing for me is to make sure that my kids will be taken care of,” Harris said. “I would love to come back to Denver. We love Denver, we have a great nanny, and people don’t realize how important that is. We have an amazing nanny who we don’t want to leave but at the end of the day, I’m 28. We got one shot at this. This is not for me, this is for my kids, for my kids’ kids and I want to make sure that they’re OK, regardless, know what I mean? It means a little bit more to me, I want to stay in Denver but, at the end of the day, I understand that there’s a chance it could not happen.”
Harris has been an underrated player for a few seasons, but has yet to have the opportunity to test the market as an unrestricted free agent.
Harris, 28, is a former seventh-round pick of the Raiders back in 2014. He was on an off of their practice squad for two years before returning to the Raiders on a one-year, exclusive rights deal.
Unfortunately, the Raiders waived Harris after the 2016 draft and he had brief stints with the Jets and Cowboys before signing a futures deal with the Broncos for the 2017 season. Denver brought Harris back last year on one-year, $3.095 million restricted deal.
In 2019, Harris appeared in all 16 games for the Broncos and recorded 49 tackles, six sacks, a forced fumble and nine passes defended.
We have Harris included in our Top 100 – 2020 Free Agents list.
