Jenna Laine of ESPN is hearing that six teams have expressed “some level of interest” in free agent DT Gerald McCoy so far including the Bengals, Falcons, Patriots, Browns, Colts, and Saints.
The Browns have been linked to McCoy for weeks now and one report from Wednesday mentioned that he could set up a visit to Cleveland at some point in the near future.
McCoy would like to sign with a playoff contender, which could help the case for the Patriots, Colts and Saints.
McCoy is clearly the best available free agent at this point in the year, so he could take his time and ensure that he’s joining the right team.
McCoy, 31, is a former first-round pick of the Buccaneers back in 2010. He was in the fifth year of his seven-year, $95.2 million contract and set to make a base salary of $13 million in 2019 when the Buccaneers released him.
In 2018, McCoy appeared in 14 games for the Buccaneers and recorded 28 tackles, six sacks, and a pass defense. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 28 interior defender out of 112 qualifying players.
We have him featured in our Top 50 Available Free Agents list.
