Stanford Routt Signs With The Kansas City Chiefs

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that free CB Stanford Routt will be signing with the Kansas City Chiefs. Pro Football Talk reports that the contract is a three-year deal worth $20 million.

This is pretty big news not only because it’s the first big name to change teams but it’s a pretty direct indication that CB Brandon Carr will not be retained. It was hard to estimate whether or not the Chiefs were using their interest in Routt to lower Carr’s asking price but they obviously weren’t bluffing about replacing him.

This could mean allow the Chiefs to place their franchise tag on WR Dwayne Bowe in the hopes of getting a long-term contract done at some point.
