Steelers NT Casey Hampton On The PUP List To Begin The Season?

Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin mentioned during today’s owner meetings that NT Casey Hampton could also begin the season on the PUP list alongside of RB Rashard Mendenhall, per Ed Bouchette.

Tomlin added that he believes Scott McLendon and Ziggy Hood will be able to handle the position, should Hampton remain on PUP list at the start of the 2012 season.

It was just a few weeks ago that Hampton’s name was coming up as a possible cap-casualty, but the team elected to keep him around and renegotiate his current contract. He’ll be 35 at the start of next season, so it’s hard to say what he has left at this point in time and Pittsburgh figures be looking for a replacement in the year’s upcoming draft.

We have the Steelers taking NT Alameda Ta’amu out of Washington in the second-round of our most recent 2012 NFL Mock Draft.
