Mike Garafolo of NFL Media reports that Steelers rookie RB James Conner likely will need to undergo surgery on his knee after he suffered an injury during Sunday’s loss to the Patriots.

  • According to Garafolo, Conner’s timeline for recovery is currently unclear, but he’ll end up missing at least a few games.
  • Ian Rapoport adds that this injury will put the playoffs in doubt for Conner.

The Steelers will obviously lean heavily on Le’Veon Bell in the coming weeks, but it’s possible Fitzgerald Toussaint could get worked into the mix while Conner is out.

Conner, 22, was taken in the third round of this year’s NFL draft by the Steelers. He signed a four-year, $3.09 million contract that included a $706,288 signing bonus and he stands to make base salaries of $555,000 and $645,000 over the next two years of the agreement.

In 2017, Conner has appeared in 14 games for the Steelers and rushed for 144 yards on 32 carries (4.5 YPC) and no touchdowns.

We’ll have more regarding Conner’s injury as the news is available.
