Steelers Restructing LT Alejandro Villanueva’s Contract, Will Free Up Around $4M

Jeremy Fowler reports that the Steelers are restructuring LT Alejandro Villanueva’s contract and the move is expected to create close to $4 million of cap space.

Pittsburgh will reportedly convert Villanueva’s 2018 salary to signing bonus that will likely be prorated over the remainder of the contract.

Villanueva, 29, wound up signing on with the Eagles as an undrafted free agent out of Army back in 2015. He was waived during the preseason and later signed to the Steelers’ practice squad at the start of the season.

Pittsburgh brought Villanueva back on a one-year exclusive rights deal last year before signing him to a four-year, $24 million contract last summer.

In 2017, Villanueva appeared in all 16 games for the Steelers and is rated by Pro Football Focus as the No. 34 offensive tackle out of 81 qualifying players.
