Steelers Working To Get Extension In Place With Ben Roethlisberger Before Draft

Adam Schefter reports that the Steelers are working hard to complete a contract extension with QB Ben Roethlisberger before the draft starts on Thursday.

Pittsburgh has maintained that they planned to get a new extension in place with Roethlisberger this offseason and one report from last month said it was expected to be done soon.

However, there haven’t been many updates since then.

Once the deal is finalized between the Steelers and Roethlisberger, the expectation is that he’ll be in the range of the $30 million per year Kirk Cousins is making with the Vikings.

Roethlisberger, 36, is in the second year of his five-year, $99 million contract that includes $64 million guaranteed. He stands to make base salaries of $12 million over the final two years of the agreement.

In 2018, Roethlisberger appeared in 16 games for the Steelers and completed 67 percent of his passes for 5,129 yards, 34 touchdowns and 16 interceptions.

We’ll have more regarding the Steelers and Roethlisberger as the news is available.
