Mike Garafolo of FOX Sportsย reported earlier in the dayย that there is a “steady drumbeat” about a possible return of former DCย Steve Spagnuolo to the Giants.
Ralph Vacchiano confirms thatย Spagnuolo is aย name to watchย as a possible replacement for current DC Perry Fewell, if they elect to make a change.
According to Vacchiano, Spagnuolo has many supporters in the organization.
As for Fewell’s chances of being back next year, team source who spoke to Vacchiano referred to the Giants parting ways with himย asย “probable,” but “not a lock.”
Vacchiano adds that there should be more available on this subject after HC Tomย Coughlin meets with the press on Tuesday.
This year, Fewell’s defense was the 29th in total yards allowed and No. 22 overall in points allowed.
Spagnuolo was once of the most sought after coaching candidates in the league before he left New York to take the Rams’ job back in 2009. He last just two years in St. Louis before he was fired and later hired by New Orleans.
In 2014,ย Spagnuolo worked as the Ravens’ secondary coach.
We’ll have more updates regarding the Fewell’s future and the Giants options as the news is available.
