Steve Spagnuolo Could Replace Perry Fewell As Giants’ Defensive Coordinator

Mike Garafolo of FOX Sports reported earlier in the day that there is a “steady drumbeat” about a possible return of former DC Steve Spagnuolo to the Giants.

Ralph Vacchiano confirms that Spagnuolo is a name to watch as a possible replacement for current DC Perry Fewell, if they elect to make a change.

According to Vacchiano, Spagnuolo has many supporters in the organization.

As for Fewell’s chances of being back next year, team source who spoke to Vacchiano referred to the Giants parting ways with him as “probable,” but “not a lock.”

Vacchiano adds that there should be more available on this subject after HC Tom Coughlin meets with the press on Tuesday.

This year, Fewell’s defense was the 29th in total yards allowed and No. 22 overall in points allowed.

Spagnuolo was once of the most sought after coaching candidates in the league before he left New York to take the Rams’ job back in 2009. He last just two years in St. Louis before he was fired and later hired by New Orleans.

In 2014, Spagnuolo worked as the Ravens’ secondary coach.

We’ll have more updates regarding the Fewell’s future and the Giants options as the news is available.
