Still A Possibility Seahawks Trade DE Frank Clark

Ian Rapoport of NFL Media says his understanding is that the Seahawks trading franchise DE Frank Clark is a possibility to watch leading up to next week’s draft.

Rapoport reports that “several” have interest in Clark and are wondering what Seattle will elect to do.

The Seahawks could go a number of ways here and trade him for a high draft pick, sign him to a long-term extension or allow him to play out the season under the franchise tag.

Earlier in the week, Pro Football Talk reported that there’s “some chatter on the league grapevine” about a possible Clark trade.

Citing a league source, Florio reports that several teams called the Seahawks about trading for Clark last year, and they called again before 2019 free agency.

Clark has come up as a possible trade candidate, despite the fact that the Seahawks used their franchise tag on him last month.

Last week, multiple league sources told Matt Verderame of Fansided that they believe the Seahawks are open to trade offers for Clark. Verderame added that any trade offer for Clark would have to include a second-round pick as a starting point for the Seahawks to consider making the move.

Rapoport previously mentioned that Clark has no plans to sign his franchise tender or show up for the start of training camp unless his reps and Seattle are able to get an agreement in place on a long-term deal.

For what it’s worth, Jay Glazer first reported that the Bills were among the teams that have expressed interest in acquiring Clark. Although, reports later refuted the Bills having interest in him and Glazer mentioned a few days ago that trade buzz regarding Clark had died down a bit.

The franchise tag for Clark will cost Seattle $17,128,000 fully guaranteed for the 2019 season.

Clark, 25, is a former second-round pick of the Seahawks back in 2015. He’s currently in the final year of his four-year, $3.732 million contract and set to make a base salary of $705,000 for the 2018 season.

In 2018, Clark appeared in all 16 games for the Seahawks and recorded 41 tackles, 13 sacks, an interception, three forced fumbles, two recoveries and two pass defenses. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 18 overall edge defender out of 103 qualifying players.

We’ll have more regarding Clark as the news is available.
