Kenyan Drake Trade Talks Progressing, Wont’ Travel With Dolphins For Monday’s Game

Update:

Tom Pelissero of NFL Media reports that trade talks are progressing involving Dolphins RB Kenyan Drake and it’s to the point where he will not travel with the team for Monday’s game against the Steelers.

According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, there’s a “strong possibility” of the Dolphins trading RB Kenyan Drake before Tuesday’s trade deadline.

Schefter says that multiple teams have called Miami about Drake including the Titans and Lions with the Dolphins looking for a mid-round pick in return.

Sources tell Schefter that they believe some team will offer enough to pry loose Drake from the Dolphins.

This would leave the Dolphins with a running back corps that consists of Mark Walton, Kalen Ballage, Myles Gaskin and Patrick Laird for the remainder of the season.

Prior reports have said that the Dolphins wanted to sign Drake to a contract extension, but his agents never responded to Miami’s offer.

Should the Dolphins let Drake walk next year, it’s unlikely they would recoup a compensatory pick in 2021 for him, given that they’re expected to be active in free agency.

Drake, 25, is a former third-round pick of the Dolphins back in 2016. He’s currently in the final year of his four-year, $3.5 million contract and stands to make a base salary of $810,000 for the 2019 season.

Drake is in line to be an unrestricted free agent in 2020.

In 2019, Drake has appeared in six games for the Dolphins and rushed for 174 yards on 47 carries (3.7 YPC) to go along with 22 receptions for 174 yards receiving and no touchdowns.

We’ll have more regarding Drake as the news is available.
