Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle reports that Texans CB Phillip Gaines is undergoing season-ending surgery for a “severe” high-ankle sprain. Houston will be placing Gaines on injured reserve in the coming days, according to Wilson.
Gaines is reportedly looking at a five-month recovery time.
Gaines, 28, is a former third-round pick of the Chiefs back in 2014. He played out the final year of his four-year, $2,824,112 contract and made a base salary of $700,000 before signing on with the Bills in 2018.
The Browns claimed Gaines off of waivers from the Bills and he returned to Cleveland on a one-year contract back in March. However, he was later released with an injury settlement and later signed on with the Texans last month.
In 2019, Gaines has appeared in six games and recorded 13 tackles, no interceptions and two pass defenses.
