Texans Promote Tim Kelly To OC, Hire Carl Smith As QBs Coach

The Houston Texans announced that they’ve offically promoted TEs coach Tim Kelly to to offensive coordinator and hired Carl Smith as their QBs coach.

Kelly has spent five years with the Texans, beginning as an offensive quality control coach in 2014 before being promoted to tight end’s coach in 2017.

His coaching career began at Illinois-Wesleyan in 2008-2009 as their defensive line coach. Kelly was hired by Ball State to become their defensive coordinator in 20010-2011 before joining Penn State as a graduate assistant under current Texans HC Bill O’Brien

O’Brien, clearly impressed by Kelly as a coach, brought him along to Houston when hired in 2014 as a part of his coaching staff.
