Texans Releasing S Tashaun Gipson

Aaron Wilson reports that the Texans are releasing S Tashaun Gipson on Monday.

Gipson, 29, signed on with the Browns as an undrafted free agent out of Wyoming back in 2012. He returned to Cleveland a one-year restricted tender with the Browns worth $2.356 million for the 2015 season before signing a five-year deal worth $35.5 contract with the Jaguars in 2016.

However, the Jaguars released Gipson in 2018 and he later signed a three-year, $22 million deal with the Texans last year.

According to OverTheCap.com, releasing Gipson will free up $3,187,500 of available cap space while creating $4.25 million in dead money.

In 2019, Gipson appeared in 14 games for the Texans and recorded 51 tackles, three interceptions, one defensive touchdown and eight passes defended. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 71 safety out of 81 qualifying players.
