Texans Rumors: Peyton Manning, Mario Williams, Stanford Routt

Peyton Manning

Last night we posted a report that mentioned that Peyton Manning has interest in playing for the Texans. Well, John McClain shot that rumor down earlier in the day when he tweeted:  “forget about anything involving Peyton Manning coming to the Texans.”

The Texans have to marquee free agents to deal with in Mario Williams and Arian Foster which leaves little to no cap space available for Manning. Having Matt Schaub on the roster complicates matters further but it was at least an interesting idea.

Mario Williams

John McClain of the Houston Chronicle reports that Texans still have Mario Williams as their “top priority” of the offseason.

Recent reports indicated that Williams would have to be willing to give the Texans a “hometown discount” if he planned on returning next season. Obviously, he’ll be able to find a better contract and possibly a better fit on the open market. Last year, the Texans were using Williams at OLB which isn’t exactly the ideal position for one of the games best pass rushers.

Stanford Routt

McClain reports that the Texans have “nothing lined up” with Stanford Routt at this point in time despite reports from earlier in the week that suggested that he would be visiting the team at some point in the week.

McClain points to the fact that the Texans have very little money to spend on free agents other than Foster and Williams.
