Texans Sign QB A.J. McCarron To One-Year, $3M Deal

Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that the Texans are finalizing a contract with QB A.J. McCarron on Tuesday.

  • According to John McClain, McCarron’s contract is a one-year deal worth $3 million.

McCarron, 27, is a former fifth-round pick of the Bengals back in 2014. He played out the final year of his four-year, $2,401,652 contract and made a base salary of $690,000 for the 2017 season and was testing the free agent market for the first time in his career.

McCarron won a grievance against the Bengals that stemmed from the team’s decision to place him on the non-football injury list (NFI) at the start of training camp due to a shoulder issue during his rookie year, which allowed him to test the free agent market as an unrestricted free agent last offseason.

The Bills later signed McCarron to a two-year, $10 million contract before trading him to the Raiders last year for a fifth-round pick.

The Raiders released McCarron last week before his $3 million roster bonus became due on March 17.

In 2018, McCarron appeared in two games for the Raiders and completed 1 of 3 pass attempts for eight yards and no touchdowns.
