According to Adam Schefter, the Titans have not yet discussed an extension for RB Derrick Henry.
Schefter points out that the Titans have a policy of not doing extensions in-season with players. He adds the team says it’s more focused on making the playoffs than doing long-term deals for players.
However, others around the league have taken note of how Tennessee has so far not tried to retain arguably the engine to its entire offense before the end of his deal.
Henry is currently third in the NFL in rushing but challenging running back market dynamics will complicate his ability to get a new deal, either from the Titans or elsewhere.
Henry, 25, is a former second-round pick of the Titans back in 2016. He’s currently in the final year of his four-year, $5.407 million contract and set to make a base salary of $1.18 million for the 2019 season.
Henry will be an unrestricted free agent in 2020.
In 2019, Henry has appeared in 12 games for the Titans and rushed 232 times for 1,140 yards (4.9 YPC) and 11 touchdowns. He’s also added 17 receptions for 200 yards and two touchdowns.
We have Henry featured in our Top 50 – 2020 NFL Free Agents list.
