Bears Open To Re-Signing DE Israel Idonije, 49ers & Titans Also Interested

Update:

Ian Rapoport reports that the Chicago Bears are still trying to re-sign free agent DE Israel Idonije.

  • Rapoport adds that they’ll have to “fight off the 49ers” to do so.
  • Yesterday, Jim Wyatt mentioned that the Titans have “shown some interest” as well.

The market for defensive ends has been slow moving as of late due to the overall supply of available talent. This is the first that we’ve heard of the 49ers having interest in Idonije, but if there’s really three teams vying for his services, he could secure a better deal than we would have thought at this point in free agency.

We have him listed as the No. 18 player in our recently updated Top 50 Free Agents list.

Jim Wyatt of the Nashville Tennessean reports that the Titans have “shown some interest” in free agent DE Israel Idonije.

The Titans also have interest in DL Ropati Pitoitua, who visited with them on Wednesday.

Idonije, 32, is coming off of a season in which he totaled 7.5 sacks for the Bears defense. He has only missed one game in the past six seasons, but there’s been little to no interest in him since free agency opened last week. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 12 4-3 defensive end for the 2012 season.

Tennessee could use some extra help defensive end, but it’s doubtful that Idonije would be anymore than a role for them, barring an injury to either Kamerion Wimbley or Derrick Morgan. Idonije has said that he would like to return to the Bears, but they appear to be focused on getting younger.
